Dubbed “the best UK dance fest of the year” by the Guardian in only its second year, and having received glowing reviews elsewhere too, We Are FSTVL has been making some serious waves on the dance music scene. This May, we brought along our S5000 TriSpan to find out what all the fuss is about.
The miserable weather didn’t dampen the mood for this trendy two-day festival located in what they call “The Airfield Of Dreams” (or Damyns Hall Aerodrome to everyone else!) in Upminster, Essex. The line-up included the likes of Fatboy Slim, Route 94, German techno legend Sven Vath and Disclosure.
Our TriSpan formed the spectacular centrepiece of the festival’s VIP Village. One open S2000 served as a canopy walkway to the main structure, another created a smaller closed off VIP Stage and a third S2000 comprised the silent disco. The whole setup was raised on base extensions using our newly designed concrete ballasts, with mojo hexagonal barriers creating space for event security to stand in.
The huge collection of structures formed part of one of the most impressive VIP setups we’ve seen at a festival this size, complete with pampering parlour and champagne bar.
There were some big names billed to play the VIP Village too. Saturday was hosted by US House producer, Mark Kinchen as Area 10, showcasing DJs including Amine Edge & DANCE and Detroit techno legend Kevin Saunderson. On Sunday, the VIP Village played host to resident DJ’s from iconic Ibiza club night, Circo Loco and revered German DJ Timo Maas.
And the highlight of the weekend for Silver Stage’s director Seth Fellner? “I had a humbling moment stood on stage with We Are FSTVL’s organisers Reece Miller and Dia Rinkeviciute. We looked out at what we’d created; the venue was packed from wall to wall and it was truly awe-inspiring to look out on this incredible vast sea of revelers.”
